Police searching for day-cab that killed young woman in hit-and-run

Published:

A South Carolina Police Department has released information surrounding the vehicle responsible for a fatal hit and run earlier this month as they search for the culprit.

23-year-old Rebecca Brown was struck and killed on S. Guignard Dr. on Wednesday, March 17th, at around 9:20 p.m. in Sumter, South Carolina under unclear circumstances.

According to ABC 15 News, Brown was last seen at the Sumter Stop, and was missing for a week before her body was found dead in a ditch. The coroner report states that Brown died from blunt force injuries after being struck by a vehicle.

Thanks to security footage from a nearby business, police have determined that she was struck by a white Freightliner Cascadia day cab model semi-truck pulling a white trailer. The rig responsible is expected to have damage to the front-right headlight area.

Any individuals who have information about the hit-and-run, or have seen a semi truck matching the description, are urged to call the Sumter Police Department at 803-436-2700 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
