POLICE: Trucker fatally struck after parking mid-intersection, running into traffic

A truck driver is dead after stopping his rig in the middle of an intersection and running into the path of an oncoming vehicle, police say.

The incident happened on Tuesday, August 17th in Shelby County, Indiana.

According to Magnolia State Live, 68-year-old truck driver, David Young, parked his rig in the middle of the  County Road 425 West and Smithland Road intersection just before 1 a.m. for reasons that are still unknown. As a motorist approached the stopped semi truck, Young ran across the road and into the path of the vehicle, where he was fatally struck by the 19-year-old motorist.

When police arrived, they found the rig stopped in the middle of the intersection with its headlights and flashers still on. Young was pronounced dead on scene, but the motorist was uninjured in the incident.

Police say that it is still unclear why Young was stopped in the intersection, or why he suddenly darted across the road. Police do not suspect the involvement of drugs or alcohol.
