‘Projectile’ through windshield sends truck driver to the hospital

New York State Police are investigating an incident that left a truck driver with head injuries last week.

The incident happened on Thursday, February 25, on the New York State Thruway in DeWitt.

The East Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched to the westbound New York State Thruway at mile marker 279 for a report of a “projectile” that went through the windshield of a truck and struck the truck driver in the head.

The truck driver was able to maintain control and safely pull the truck off the roadway.

When rescue crews arrived on the scene, the truck driver was conscious and breathing. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

The truck driver said that at the time that the projectile came through the windshield, a flatbed truck hauling junk cars had been traveling directly in front of him.

The incident is under investigation by New York State Police.
