Runaway tire causes double-semi crash that shuts down highway

A runaway semi truck tire led to the closure of a major interstate in Missouri on Thursday morning.

The incident happened on May 20th at around 1:30 a.m. in Callaway County.

According to ABC 17 News, a semi truck driven by 29-year-old Ronald Spencer lost a tire on eastbound Interstate 70 near exit 137, which struck another tractor trailer. Both rigs then went off of the left side of the road and hit a cable fence along the median.

The second truck, driven by 53-year-old Larry Chalberg, then overturned. Chalberg suffered minor injuries, but no other injuries have been reported.

The incident has since been cleared.
