SCHP: Trucker, rig incinerated in single-truck crash

Published:

A truck driver has passed away following a single truck crash that burnt the rig to the ground.

The accident happened on Tuesday morning, August 10th at around 9:15 a.m. in Anderson County, South Carolina.

According to WYFF News, the 2010 International semi truck was in the left lane of southbound Highway 81 when it suddenly veered off the roadway, through a fence, struck a utility pole, and burst into flames. The incident left the truck driver trapped inside of the mangled, burning truck.

First responders worked to free the unnamed truck driver with the help of some tools, but the driver unfortunately died at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved but traffic was backed up for miles as emergency personnel battled the flames and cleared the wreckage.

The incident is still under investigation and the reason the truck left the roadway is still not clear.
