Semi stopped on shoulder sparks three rig, chain reaction crash

Published:

A chain reaction crash involving three semi trucks caused major traffic backups in Indiana on Tuesday morning.

The accident happened just after midnight early on Tuesday morning, December 7th near Munster, Indiana.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, a semi truck hauling meat was stopped on the shoulder of eastbound Interstate 80/94 near Indianapolis Boulevard when it was struck by another tractor trailer hauling salt. The force of the collision spilled the load of meat and the load of salt all over the roadway as a third semi truck crashed into the wreckage.

One of the truck drivers sustained minor injuries in the incident, but no other injuries were reported.

Eastbound traffic was diverted to Calumet Avenue as crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the incident. All lanes of the interstate were reopened by 8:30 a.m.
