South Dakota man faces federal charges for allegedly stealing fuel truck, taking it across state lines

A federal grand jury has indicted a South Dakota man on charges related to the theft of a truck.

Twenty-nine year old Cole Brewer of Pine Ridge, South Dakota, was indicted on May 20, 2021, for  Interstate Transportation of a Stolen Vehicle, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Brewer is accused of stealing a Freightliner fuel truck from Hay Springs, Nebraska, in June 2020, and driving the truck across state lines.

On June 16, 2021, Brewer pleaded not guilty to the charge.

If convicted, Brewer is facing up to 10 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, three years supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

The investigation was conducted by the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety and the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Department.

A trial date has not yet been set.
