A man driving a semi truck perished after being shot following a police pursuit in southern Arizona on Monday afternoon.
The incident reportedly began in Rio Rico, Arizona, on the afternoon of May 24. Several reports indicate that the pursuit began at a border checkpoint.

A short police pursuit occurred on I-19.
The suspect drove the semi truck to a Walmart store in Nogales. Police reportedly attempted to stop the truck from fleeing the parking lot with spike strips.
Shot were fired as multiple law enforcement officers approached the truck in the parking lot as the driver apparently attempted to leave the lot.
The truck came to a stop for good near the Walmart parking lot on Grand Avenue, a short distance south from the store.
Authorities later confirmed that the suspect died from gunshot wounds.

No other injuries were reported.
Authorities have not yet released information on the identity of the driver or what sparked the police pursuit.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety released a statement on the incident:
The Department assisted the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office and Nogales Police Department with a criminal incident. Although Department detectives will conduct the criminal investigation, the investigation is in the preliminary phase and so we cannot provide details at this time.
Once the investigation has progressed, the Sherriff’s Office and the Nogales Police Department may provide preliminary information.
