Swarms of bees freed, killed after rig overturns

Published:

Swarms of bees were accidentally released in downtown San Antonio on Sunday after the semi truck hauling them overturned on the highway.

The accident happened on January 24th at around 10:50 a.m. in San Antonio, Texas.

According to CBNC News, two semi trucks hauling bees were traveling along the Interstate 10 west offramp to eastbound Interstate 35 when one of them took the Finesilver Curve too sharply and overturned, freeing the load of bees.

The second rig did not overturn. Officers say the rollover was a result of speed, wind, and the driver’s unfamiliarity with the curve.

A large number of bees did escape the overturned semi truck, but those that stayed on site were killed after being sprayed by firefighters.

Authorities say the wreck will cost at least $90,000 in damages.
