Tennessee truck crash ties up traffic, triggers massive cargo spill

Tennessee transportation officials are still working to clean up a huge amount of debris spilled during an early morning crash on Wednesday.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. on I-81 in Greene County, Tennessee.

Police say that a southbound semi truck changed lanes on I-81 near mile marker 42 and struck a Chevrolet Spectrum, sending both vehicles off the roadway.

Both the truck driver and motorist were injured in the crash.

Photos shared by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) show heavy damage to the truck and a large amount of materials spilled from the trailer onto the side of the interstate.

Local outlet WJHL reports that charges are pending against Texas-based truck driver Kemel Diaz Garcia, 45.

Crews are still working to clean up the cargo spill as of the morning rush hour. TDOT says that the right lane of southbound I-81 is still closed. Officials did not offer an expected time for the interstate to fully reopen.
