The driver of a box truck left a “trail of destruction” in his wake on Sunday after leading police on a pursuit that ended in an hour-long standoff.

The incident happened on March 21st at around 5:30 p.m. in Malibu, California.

According to CBS Los Angeles, police received reports of the box truck with out of state plates speeding and weaving through traffic. When officers tried to pull the truck over, the driver refused and sped off, beginning the chase.

The pursuit lasted approximately 40 minutes and came to an end when the rig crashed into a car, sending both vehicles into roadside ditches on opposite sides of Highway 118 at Center School Road. However, the truck driver refused to get out of the vehicle, causing an hour-long standoff with police.

The unnamed truck driver was eventually arrested and taken to a hospital. The condition of the motorist involved in the crash has not been released.

Those investigating the incident say that, at one point, a passenger escaped the runaway truck after the driver attacked him with a knife. The incident is still under investigation.
