Truck driver escorted back to border checkpoint after attempting to flee inspection, 126 illegal aliens discovered

Published:

126 illegal immigrants were discovered in the back of a semi truck that attempted to flee inspection in Texas on Wednesday.

The incident occurred early morning on January 6th at the Interstate 35 border checkpoint in Laredo, Texas.

According to a report by the US Customs and Border Patrol, a service canine alerted officers to the refrigerated semi truck during initial inspection, so the truck was referred to secondary inspection. Instead of following instructions, the truck driver then exited the checkpoint and proceeded onto northbound I-35, attempting to flee the scene.

Agents then pursued the rig and pulled the driver over just north of the checkpoint before escorting the big rig back to the checkpoint. Upon further inspection, 126 people attempting to enter the US from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Ecuador were discovered in the back of the trailer, all without PPE.

The people were medically screened, given PPE and then taken into custody. The truck driver, a US citizen, was also placed under arrest. The semi truck and trailer have been seized and the incident is still under investigation.
