Truck driver faces attempted murder charges for Iowa truck stop stabbing

Published:

A truck driver has been arrested and charged for allegedly stabbing a fellow truck driver at an Iowa truck stop on Wednesday.

Thirty year old Texas-based truck driver Conrado Gonzales Jr. has been charged with attempted murder and attempted murder of a peace officer.

The charges stem from an incident occurred December 6 at a Love’s truck stop located in Newton, Iowa.

The Newton Police Department says that they received a call about a stabbing at the truck stop shortly after 6 p.m.

When officers arrived on scene, they were told that a male suspect had entered someone else’s semi truck and stabbed the truck driver inside multiple times before fleeing on foot.

Police began searching the area for the suspect.

An officer located Gonzales, who met the description of the suspect, and attempted to arrest him. The officer said that Gonzales attacked him and reached for a knife in his pocket during the scuffle that ensued. Another officer used a taser to subdue Gonzales.

The 50 year old victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of stab wounds to his arms, legs, and torso. No one else was seriously hurt.

Police said that the attack was unprovoked and that the two men did not know one another.

After his arrest, Gonzales reportedly later admitted to police that his intent was to kill the truck driver victim and the police officer, according to the Newton Daily News.

Gonzales was booked into the Jasper County Jail and is being held on a $150,000 cash only bond.
