Published:

A truck driver died in an officer-involved shooting in a shopping mall parking lot after he fled a roadside inspection in San Antonio on Wednesday.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, the incident began around 11:30 a.m. on January 27 when a Texas Department of Transportation officer pulled over a semi truck near I-35 and Zarzamora Street for an inspection.

The truck driver, described only as a man in his 20’s, fled the scene on foot and ran into the nearby South Park Mall.

Police say that the truck driver was asked to leave mall property by security guards at the facility.

As the truck driver was leaving, he became involved in an altercation with four San Antonio Police officers in the mall parking lot.

During the confrontation, the officers opened fire on the truck driver, killing him.

No one else was injured.

Police say that the truck driver was armed but did not provide more information on what led to the shooting.

Per a new San Antonio Police Department policy, body cam footage of the incident will be made public within 60 days.

The fatal shooting remains under investigation.
