Truck leaking liquid hydrogen creates shut-down hazmat situation

Published:

A highway in New Mexico was shut down Thursday evening due to a rig leaking liquid hydrogen.

The incident occurred on April 1st in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

According to ABC 7 News, the truck began leaking at the Interstate 10, Interstate 25 interchange, forcing a closure of the area into Friday morning.

Luckily, crews were able to move the truck to a more isolated location near New Mexico State University where hazmat crews worked late into the night to depressurize the truck and contain the chemical leak.

A mere 300-foot evacuation zone was put in place as crews worked as authorities assured that the leak was not a threat.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
