Truck traffic banned from busy Nebraska bridge for a month

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is restricting all commercial vehicles and truck traffic from using an Iowa/Nebraska bridge due to construction.

Effective July 26, NDOT announced that all “commercial and heavy trucks and loads” will not be permitted to use the Missouri River Bridge on Highway 2 at Nebraska City.

NDOT is closing the bridge to truck traffic only “out of an abundance of caution” due to a planned rehabilitation project. All other traffic will still be allowed to use the Missouri River Bridge.

NDOT says that an official detour to route vehicles towards I-29 will be posted soon.

Between 1500 and 2000 semi trucks use the bridge each day, according to local news outlet WOWT.

The truck travel restriction is expected to remain in place for approximately a month, NDOT says.
