Trucker abandons rig after smashing through cars, into house

Published:

Police are on the search for a trucker that fled the scene after crashing into a house in Ohio on Wednesday morning.

The incident happened on June 16th in Grand Rapids, Ohio at state Route 65 and Wapakoneta Road.

According to 13 ABC News, the rig struck multiple cars before smashing into the side of a house. The driver then fled the scene, leaving his empty rig behind. Police are describing the suspect as a black man wearing a maroon shirt and jeans.

“I was just amazed at how it was able to go through the whole entire bottom of the house,” said Shaun Downey, owner of the home.

“It’s not every day that you’ve got a 53-foot semi go from the southwest corner all the way to the northeast corner,” he said to the Sentinel-Tribune. “It literally made it through the whole downstairs of the house.”

The driver’s company says they haven’t heard from him in two days, stating that he strayed from his route and they haven’t been able to get in touch with him since.

Officials suspect the driver is experiencing mental health or medical issues.
