Trucker accused of soliciting sex from minor in exchange for marriage

Published:

A trucker was arrested recently after being accused of inappropriate behavior with a minor.

38-year-old Wigberto Berrios was taken into custody in Carroll County, Georgia over the Easter weekend after the young girl’s mother discovered texts from Berrios on her daughter’s phone and alerted the authorities.

According to WSB Radio News, Berrios was sending images of child molestation to the girl, and urged her to meet up with him when he traveled through the area. However, authorities soon took over communication, and began texting Berrios while posing as the young girl. During that time, Berrios arranged for him and the girl to meet up at the Dairy Queen in Tallapoosa to have sex, promising to one day marry the girl and have kids with her but describing their planned meeting as “a way for them to get to know each other.”

When Berrios arrived at the Dairy Queen for the sexual encounter with the child, police were waiting for him. He was promptly taken into custody, where he admitted to exchanging photos with the girl and soliciting sex from her.

He’s been charged with five counts of exploitation, one count of criminal attempted child molestation and one count of criminal attempt to entice a child.

Authorities say they believe Berrios may be involved with similar inappropriate relationships with minors across the country. Anyone who has been contacted by Berrios or knows a victim is asked to contact Deputy Courtney Short at 770-830-5916 or by email at cshort@carrollsheriff.com.
