A trucker has been arrested after nine migrants were found packed into a wooden cage inside of his trailer.
The incident happened on May 15th at the interstate 35 checkpoint in Laredo, Texas, but was not released to the public until earlier this week.
According to the Laredo Morning Times, a tractor trailer driven by George Magana Jr. pulled up to the checkpoint at around 11:05 p.m. A K9 quickly alerted to the trailer, and the rig was referred to secondary inspection.
Upon further investigation, a wooden cage packed with nine people was discovered in the trailer covered by a tarp.
All nine people were determined to be immigrants from Mexico and Guatemala, and were detained along with the trucker for further questioning.
Magana would not speak with the border patrol agents and instead invoked his right to an attorney before answering questions. He has since been arrested and charged with transport, attempt to transport and conspiring to transport the migrants.
