Trucker convicted after luring minors with offers of ‘free cross-country trips’

Published:

A truck driver is facing a minimum of ten years in prison for the transportation of minors and the posession of child pornography.

59-year-old Travis Wayne Vavra advertised free amusement park passes and cross-country trips aimed at allowing boys to explore the United States by posting flyers, and began transporting a minor in his semi truck under this guise from May 2015 to June 2019. During this time, Vavra sexually assaulted the minor, who was only nine years old when the situation began, and transported them from El Paso, Texas through New Mexico, Missouri, Arizona, California, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.

Prior to that time, Vavra was responsible for the molestation of two other victims.

On the day he was arrested, Vavra had posted yet another flyer advertising the free trips and child sexual abuse material was discovered on his phone.

Currently, Vavra is in federal custody facing a minimum of 10 years in prison and up to a lifetime sentence for transportation of minors charge and up to 20 years in federal prison for the possession of child pornography. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Vavra’s conviction was announced on Tuesday, June 29th.
