Authorities in Texas have confirmed that a truck driver lost his life early this morning when he was struck by a police vehicle while on foot outside of his broken-down truck.
The fatal crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. approximately 5 miles east of Cumby, Texas.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) says that a truck driven by 45 year old Michigan resident Donald Hollan had broken down on an I-30 service road.
Hollan was reportedly wearing all dark clothing and had stepped into the roadway when he was hit by a westbound 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe belonging to the Cumby Police Department.
The Tahoe driver, 34-year-old Cumby Police officer Jonathan Painter, did not see Hollan prior to hitting him.
Hollan died at the scene.
Painter was shaken but not injured.
