Trucker facing attempted murder after speeding away with trooper still standing on truck

A truck driver is facing multiple charges after driving away with a police officer still standing on the side of his rig. 

The incident happened on Monday afternoon, October 18th near Edgewood, Maryland. 

According to WBAL TV, 37-year-old Maurice Cooper robbed someone at the Maryland House Travel Plaza and fled the scene by heading the wrong way on Interstate 95. Officers pursued Cooper and got him to stop, but when a trooper climbed on to the running boards to speak with the driver, he sped away. .The trooper was thrown from the rig but suffered only minor injuries. 

Cooper eventually abandoned the truck and fled into the woods before traveling through a neighborhood, where he was caught. 

Cooper is now facing charges of attempted second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, assault of a law enforcement officer, theft and other related traffic charges.
