A truck driver was sentenced to prison on Wednesday on charges of child pronography and witness tampering.
The driver was sentenced on March 31st, for a conviction handed out in October of last year.
According to the East St Louis Post-Dispatch, Avery Smartt Jr. was involved in a months-long relationship with a 15-year-old girl starting in September of 2016. During the relationship, he took her on the road with him, took explicit photographs of her, and even fathered a child with her.
After Smartt was charged and sent to jail late last year, he began writing friends and relatives from jail, imploring them to contact the teenage victim and have her change her testimony in his favor.
Smartt is facing 25 years in federal prison.
