Trucker turns himself in after fleeing scene of fatal crash, abandoning rig

A truck driver turned himself in to police after fleeing a crash that left one woman dead in Arkansas on Wednesday. 

The accident happened on April 28th at around 8 a.m. in Helena – West Helena, Arkansas. 

According to News Channel 3, 33-year-old truck driver Taracella Barnes ran a red light and struck a car driven by 64-year-old Barbara Kay Green at the intersection of Highway 242 and Highway 49 and fled the scene. 

Green was transported to a hospital but soon succumbed to her injuries. 

Officers searched for Barnes and eventually located his tractor trailer, but Barnes was nowhere to be found. 

Later that day, Barnes surrendered himself to the Phillips County Sheriff’s Department and is now in the custody of the Arkansas State Police. 

Barnes is currently facing charges of negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, and driving while license suspended, police said.

The incident is still under investigation.
