Trucker’s life saved thanks to the quick actions of some bystanders

A truck driver’s life was saved thanks to the quick thinking of some bystanders who braved the flames.

The accident happened on Tuesday, August 24th in Colleton County, South Carolina.

According to Live 5 News,  the semi truck was heading south on Interstate 95 when it had a front-tire blowout, sending it crashing into the wooded median near the 67 mile marker.

The truck struck several trees before finally coming to a stop, trapping the driver inside and bursting into flames – that’s when some witnesses to the crash jumped into action.

The trucker sustained serious injuries to his legs, preventing him from escaping the cab himself, so the bystanders worked together to brave the flames and pull the driver from the wreckage.

When firefighters arrived, the truck was fully engulfed in flames but the driver had already been pulled to safety. Firefighters had to use chainsaws to cut a path through the trees in order to properly extinguish the flames, and even cut open the trailer to ensure the fire was properly quenched.

An update on the trucker’s condition has not been made available.
