Twisted crash with school bus claims life of log truck driver

Published:

A log truck driver was killed in an apparent brake-failure  crash that left the log truck and a school bus in a tangled mess on Thursday morning.

The accident happened on February 25th in Ellisville, Mississippi at around 6:48 a.m.

According to WDAM 7 News, the log truck crashed into an oncoming school bus on State Route 590 at River Road.

Thankfully, there were no children aboard the school bus at the time of the wreck, but first responders spent more than 30 minutes extricating the trapped bus driver before transporting them to the hospital with serious injuries. During the rescue, emergency personnel narrowly avoided another tragedy when a second tractor trailer failed to slow due to brake failure and nearly plowed through the crash site.

The unnamed log truck truck driver was pronounced dead on scene.

“We didn’t have any students involved,” said Jones County School District Superintendent Tommy Parker.

“The driver was on her way to begin her route when the accident occurred. She’s been transferred to Forrest General Hospital. She’s listed with serious injuries at the current time. This is one of our veteran drivers. She’s been with us for many years.”
