Two perish after being impaled by rebar when minivan rear ended truck

The Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed that two people lost their lives in a two vehicle crash on Tuesday evening.

The crash occurred on southbound I-75 in Ocala, Florida.

Police say that a 27 year old minivan driver rear ended a truck hauling a load of rebar.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the minivan driver and his 80 year old grandmother were impaled by the rebar.

By the time that the Ocala Police Department arrived on the scene, the minivan had caught fire.

Police were able break open the windows and pull the driver’s 82 year old grandfather from the front passenger seat. He was taken to the hospital and is listed in serious condition.

Officers were not able to rescue the driver or his grandmother and both passed away at the scene.

The 49 year old truck driver was not hurt.
