A truck driver has been taken into custody after agents discovered more than 60 illegal immigrants inside of his trailer.
The incident occurred on Thursday, April 29th at the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on U.S. 59 in Texas.
According to LMT Online, a blue and white tractor trailer driven by Trevor Dejon Hatchett Waithe was referred to secondary inspection at the border checkpoint after a K9 agent alerted to possible contraband.
Upon further inspection, agents discovered 62 illegal immigrants inside the trailer.
Agents then took Waithe into custody, where he admitted that he did not have an active commercial driver’s license and that an “acquaintance” had asked him to drive to Laredo, pick up a trailer, and haul it to Florida. He says he did not meet up with or see anyone while picking up the trailer in Laredo, and that the acquaintance then changed the plan and instructed that Waithe drop off the trailer in Houston instead.
Additionally, “once referred to secondary at the checkpoint, Waithe contacted the male subject that hired him and was told to erase his information from his mobile phone,” states the affidavit.
Waithe is currently being charged with transport, attempt to transport and conspire to transport the migrants.
