Video shows trucker race against drag-prepped vehicles in her Kenworth semi

Published:

Trucker Petra Rosalie Maples decided to take her rig for a spin at a drag strip during her weekend off, showing off the power of her truck.

Maples, who has been driving semis for more than 25 years, entered her 1999 Kenworth W900L in the Jarrett Powell Memorial Diesel Drags event at the Byron Dragway in Illinois.

The semi had been pulling loads of sheep, goats, and reefer trailers and had racked up almost 1.5 million miles on the odometer.

While Maples truck has some modifications, her rig had not been specifically prepped for a drag race like the full-size diesel pickup trucks she was running against.

Maples rig runs off a Caterpillar C15, a 15.2-liter inline-six diesel with 595 horsepower in stock form. Matzke Diesel out of Monroe Wisconsin built a pair of turbochargers and custom cam, fuel pump, and ECU for the rig. All these upgrades help the unit generate 1,800 horsepower.

The footage from the video below shows the 22,600-pound Kenworth covering a quarter-mile stretch in an impressive 18.34 seconds at 84.16 mph.

Petra also clocked her best time at the event of 18.01 seconds at 86.23mph.
