VIDEO: You’d need x-ray vision to drive this military truck that can lay its own road

Published:

Check out video of an unusual truck used by the British armed forces that’s capable of laying out a roadway for itself.

The video, reportedly captured in 1963, features the Bedford RL Military Road Layer, which was capable of laying out 55 yards of a flexible roadway for the truck to drive over in just a few seconds.

With the truck spooling out the roadway material right in front of the windshield, driver visibility probably wasn’t ideal, but it’s an interesting and innovative concept.
