WATCH: NJ trucker-turned-senator gets call from Donald Trump

Published:

A New Jersey truck driver who recently beat the incumbent state Senate President in an impressive political victory got a surprise call from Donald Trump himself earlier this week.

Edward Durr is a furniture truck driver that turned an initial $153 campaign into a projected victory over democratic incumbent Stephen Sweeney. Sweeney has yet to concede, claiming that all the votes have not been counted yet, but the Associated Press, and even Donald Trump, appear confident that he has secured the victory in the race for New Jersey Senator.

In a short, grainy clip shared by the Gloucester County GOP Facebook page, Durr can be seen sitting on a couch with an American flag behind him, apparently having just answered a phone call from Donald Trump.

“Have fun with it, okay?” Trump seems to say to Durr as the clip opens.

“Anything I can do, you let me know. OK?” he continues. “Let me know.”

“Thank you very much, sir,” Durr responded. “And you know you can call me at any time.”

“Well, I know that, and I know you say great things,” Trump continued.

The clip ends there, but it is unclear how long the phone call went on for.

Durr himself says he is happily shocked by the win stating that “I joked with people and I said, ‘I’m going to shock the world. I’m going to beat this man. I was saying it, but really kind of joking. Because what chance did a person like me really stand against this man? He’s literally the second-most powerful person in the state of New Jersey,” reported NJ News.
