Woman arrested after reversing into semi truck on highway

A woman has been taken into custody after driving in reverse on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and striking an oncoming semi truck.

The accident happened on Friday, October 1st just after 9 p.m. in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

According to WTAJ News, the unnamed woman was driving a Nissan Frontier in the left lane between mile markers 96.4 and 98.1 when she struck the barrier twice, threw the car into reverse, and began traveling backwards in the right lane.

In response to the dangerous behavior, an oncoming truck driver in a Freightliner moved into the left lane to avoid the car, but the motorist managed to reverse into the rig anyway, sideswiping it.

When police arrived, both the rig and the car were stopped on the side of the road but the motorist, 45-year-old Christina Phillips, was attempting to flee the scene. She was then arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

No injuries were reported.
