10-mile backups plague I-10 after fatal crash involving semi trucks, charter bus

Published:

Interstate 10 is partially closed in Louisiana this afternoon for a deadly crash between semi trucks and a charter bus.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development reports that, as of 2:05 p.m. Interstate 10 eastbound past LA415  in West Baton Rouge remains closed. Traffic is being diverted to LA415 northbound and then to US 190 eastbound, but backups are approximately 10 miles long.

According to WBRZ News, one person is dead and at least three others were hurt in the fiery crash that involved multiple tractor trailers and sent the bus skidding into the cable barrier in the median. The area where the crash occurred is reportedly infamous among officers for being dangerous and is sometimes referred to as the “Devil’s Triangle.”

“It’s the only place in the country where it reduces down to one lane, and we’ve got to do something about it,” said Lt. Ken Albarez.
