A 13-year-old is dead after running away, stealing a car, and colliding head on with a semi truck.

The incident happened on October 27th in Parsons, Kansas.

According to KOAM News, a 13-year-old stole a 2022 GMC Sierra from Tom Davis Auto Group and drove it onto US 400. The vehicle was heading westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a semi truck head-on.

The 13-year-old died in the hospital after being transported from the crash. They were found to be a runaway from the Successful Dreams campus – a facility meant to provide young people in crisis with a safe environment to live. The truck driver was not hurt in the wreck.

“These crashes are never easy. They are hard for the emergency responder that must work them. They are hard for the community to hear about but most of all they are impossible for the families to comprehend,” said Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks in a statement. I have been told that the juvenile did not survive after being transported. This hit our community hard. My sympathies go out to everyone involved. I only hope that this terrible incident learned form to avoid another senseless loss of life.”
