A 53 mile stretch of State Highway 99 outside of Houston is now open for business, the Texas Department of Transportation reports.

The section of SH 99 from Interstate 69 near New Caney to Interstate 10 in Mont Belvieu, and from Beach City to SH 146 in Baytown are now officially open for traffic as of noon on Thursday, May 19th. These new sections push the project past the 100 mile mark of completed roadway.

Tolls for these sections will be waived until Saturday, May 21st. After that, the trip on SH 99 from I-69 to I-10 will cost $8.51 for cars and $42.55 for semi trucks. Rates are expected to adjust annually, reported ABC 13.

There are now more than 60 miles left of proposed tollway between I-69 and Interstate 45 in Dickinson. The remaining segments have not received environmental approval, meaning construction has not yet started, and is likely years away.
