U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a large amount of cocaine reportedly found hidden in a commercial vehicle trailer’s tires.
The drug seizure occurred on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the World Trade Bridge, in Laredo, Texas.
A CBP officer referred a 1997 Freightliner trailer hauling a shipment of “juice” for a secondary inspection.
Using a canine unit and non-intrusive inspection systems, officers discovered “38 packages containing 87 pounds of alleged cocaine within the tires of the trailer,” CBP said in a news release.
The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $671,160.
CBP seized the drugs and the vehicle.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations is investigating the case.
“Our CBP officers’ knowledge of concealment methods and technology played a key role in the discovery of these illicit narcotics,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “We remain committed to ensuring our cargo system remains secure while facilitating lawful commerce.”
