Big rig crashes off Ohio Turnpike, down embankment, into yard

Police and rescue crews responded on Wednesday to a crash that led to a semi truck rollover on the Ohio Turnpike.

The crash happened early Wednesday afternoon in Streetsboro, Ohio.

Authorities say that a truck driver traveling on the Ohio Turnpike lost control near mile marker 188 following a crash with a passenger vehicle.

Following the crash, the truck rolled down an embankment on the south side of the Turnpike and coming to a stop in a residential yard propped up against some trees.

The Streetsboro Fire Department reports that the truck driver was able to walk away from the crash under his own power and is awaiting transport for medical treatment.

Two people in the passenger vehicle were also injured in the crash.

Though Portage County hazardous materials team personnel and EPA representatives are on scene, firefighters say that no hazardous cargo was being transported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The homeowner told Fox 8, “A tree stopped the truck from hitting my daughter’s playset, but if that tree wasn’t there, it would have taken my daughter’s set out. It is a beautiful day and we could have been outside.”
