A truck driver crashed in Missouri last week after choking while driving, police say.

The incident happened on Thursday, January 27th west of Sarcoxie at around 11 p.m.

According to KZRG News, 61-year-old trucker Donald Smith was having a snack while driving west along Interstate 44 when he began choking. Smith then ran off the left side of the interstate and struck the cable barrier, causing one of his double trailers to overturn.

Police responded to the scene and had Smith transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for moderate injuries. It is not clear if any citations were issued as a result of the incident.
