Blizzard shuts down I-80 in Nebraska, Wyoming

A severe winter weather storm forced transportation officials to close major roadways in Nebraska and Wyoming on Tuesday morning.

Around 9 a.m. on December 13, officials announced that I-80 in Nebraska is closed to westbound traffic from North Platte to the Wyoming border. I-80 is also closed in both directions at North Platte (mile marker 179) to the Colorado border.

The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) said that Highway 30 is also closed in that same area.

“Most of western Nebraska and some of southwest Nebraska is now IMPASSABLE!!” NSP warned on Tuesday morning.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) has also closed westbound I-80 from Rawlins to Laramie as of around 7 a.m. on December 13. There is no estimated time for the interstate to reopen.

Additionally, I-80 is closed in BOTH directions in Rawling at Exit 111 (Airport and Baxter Roads) for winter weather.
