Body of driver recovered after road crumbled beneath rig

The body of a dump truck driver has been recovered after the road fell out from underneath his truck.

The accident happened at around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 18th at the Gross Reservoir outside of Denver, Colorado.

According to Colorado Daily News, the oversized dump truck was hauling rock along the steep reservoir road when part of the road gave way, sending the truck tumbling down an embankment and into the dam.

Rescue crews searched the water and shorelines but were unable to locate the driver. Teams eventually used sonar to locate the position of the truck in the water, and rescue divers were able to access the cab of the submerged truck, where the driver was found deceased.

“It’s a tragedy, it really is, and these guys are just trying to do their job, you know,”  Colorado Springs Police Chief Rick Myers said to 14 News.

No further information has been released.
