Car driver fined hundreds of dollars for driving five miles with snow-covered windshield

Published:

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) issued a motorist a citation after witnessing a spectacularly unsafe winter weather driving stunt.

WSP Trooper Katherine Weatherwax says that on December 4, a caller reported a vehicle driving erratically on State Route 16 south of Bremerton.

“The vehicle drove 5 additional miles prior to being stopped by a trooper,” Weatherwax said.

When the trooper stopped the motorist, they found that the car’s windshield was covered in snow except for a small patch cleared away from the upper part of the driver’s side portion.

The motorist told the trooper that “their windshield wipers weren’t working.”

The trooper cited the motorist for negligent driving in the 2nd degree, which comes with a $553 fine.

“Please take the time to remove all snow from your vehicle before you leave the house,” Weatherwax said.
