Chains required as 3+ inches of snow falls in Truckee area

Published:

A snowstorm moving through the Truckee, California area has prompted chain requirements for semi trucks as of Friday morning.

The chain controls are in effect on Interstate 80 as of Friday morning, April 15th.

According to the Sierra Sun, chains are required for all eastbound traffic, with an exception for four wheel drive vehicles with four snow tires, from Kingvale to the Donner Lake Interchange.

Chains are required for all westbound traffic, with the same exceptions, from the Donner Lake Interchange to 4.7 miles west of Kingvale. It is not clear when these requirements will be lifted, but snow is expected in the area through Saturday evening.
