Dash cam video shows tanker truck crash following suspected brake failure in Silverthorne, Colorado

Published:

A driver’s dash cam captured the moment that a tanker truck overturned near an intersection in Silverthorne, Colorado, earlier this month.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, on northbound Highway 9 near I-70 in Silverthorne, Colorado.

According to Summit Fire & EMS, “The overturned tanker reportedly was smoking its brakes soon after exiting the Eisenhower Tunnel and made it down to Silverthorne, making the ill-advised exit (signs on the interstate tell drivers to remain on the highway if they’ve lost their brakes) and overturned, spilling its load of non-toxic emulsified oil used for keeping down dust on gravel roads. The driver was taken to Summit Medical Center with injuries that aren’t expected to be life threatening.”

The Colorado State Patrol reports that hazmat crews were called to the scene to clean up spilled emulsified petroleum resin from the tanker.

Local news outlet Summit Daily News reports that the truck driver, 44 year old Wyoming resident Antonio Ramos Lopez Jr., is facing charges of reckless endangerment and reckless driving.
