Departments continue to dodge responsibility for search as family seeks answers on trucker missing since last Halloween

A Houston family is still on the search for answers a year after their trucker relative went missing inexplicably.

47-year-old John Davis was last seen in Houston on Halloween of 2021. His wife and daughter were out trick or treating when he left for the Dallas area to return the truck he was driving to its owner.

“I took my daughter trick-or-treating and he waited around at my mom’s house,” said Patricia Harris Davis, John’s wife, who says the couple were working through a rough patch in their marriage at the time of his disappearance.

“Well, he never came back, the guy he went to give his truck back claimed he never made it there,” Patricia said.

Four months later, the truck John was driving was found at a truck stop in Mount Vernon, east of Dallas, but no further information has been revealed. To top it off, both the Houston and Mount Vernon police departments seem to deny responsibility for investigating the case. When KHOU11 contacted Houston police, they referred reporters to the Mount Vernon police, who then referred them back to Houston.

“I’m hoping to get a higher authority to come to the middle and tell me whose case is it?” Patricia said.

“A year later, I’m hoping and I’m going to keep fighting,” she added.
