Detours still in place as TxDOT works to reach agreement with emergency contractor for bridge damaged by semi

Published:

Officials say they are working to sign a construction contract with emergency contractors to repair a bridge damaged by a semi truck’s fallen load.

Officials hope to sign a contract by Friday, April 8th for the incident that happened on March 25th on the Northbound I-44 Sixth Street bridge in Wichita Falls, Texas.

According to Times Record News, TxDOT officials are expecting a lengthy repair time for the Lloyd Ruby Overpass bridge. “Emergency plans for repairs to Northbound I-44’s Sixth Street bridge are in the hands of several contractors this week,” said TxDOT spokesperson Adele Lewis in a release.

The bridge was damaged after an “18-wheeler hauling a wind turbine component lost its cargo on Northbound I-44 on top of the 6th Street overpass,” according to TxDOT. It is not clear why the turbine fell off of the truck.
