Driver found passed drunk out behind wheel of wrecked rig

A truck driver was found passed out drunk behind the wheel after crashing through a fence in Wyoming early on Saturday morning.

The accident happened on March 26th in Gillette, Wyoming at around 4:20 a.m. police reported on Monday.

According to County 17 News, Officers were dispatched to N. Garner Lake Road after receiving reports that a semi truck had crashed and was stopped on the shoulder facing oncoming traffic. When police arrived, they found the 28-year-old driver passed out in the driver’s seat of the 2022 Peterbilt. Officers determined that the truck had left the roadway, crashed through a fence, and eventually came to a stop on the shoulder on the opposite side of the road.

Officers were able to wake the driver, who reportedly smelled of alcohol, and removed him from the rig. Police were granted a warrant and obtained a blood sample from the driver. Officers also discovered 1.08 grams of suspected marijuana sitting in plain view inside of the truck cab. The man was then transported to a nearby hospital, where police chose not to arrest him after being informed that he would be kept at the facility for treatment.

The unnamed driver will be charged with driving as a commercial driver while intoxicated and possessing marijuana.
