Driver run over by fellow trucker after running out of fuel on side of road

Published:

A truck driver is dead after being run over by a fellow driver who veered off the road.

The accident happened on Sunday morning, February 20th in LaGrange County, Indiana near Shipshewana.

According to WANE 15 News, 45-year-old truck driver Shamshitdin Nuridinov was driving along the I-80/90 Toll Road near the 114 mile marker when he ran out of gas and pulled over onto the shoulder. Nuridinov then placed his triangles along the shoulder and walked off the road near the roadside ditch to call his company.

As Nuridinov was on the phone, another semi truck veered over the white line and struck the back of Nuridinov’s stopped truck. The second rig then sideswiped Nuridinov’s cab, veered off the road entirely, smashed through a guard rail, and ran over Nuridinov. The runaway rig eventually came to a stop after crashing into a concrete wall.

The driver of the second truck, 35-year-old Joseph Jett, was not hurt in the crash, but was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and submitted to a chemical test. Police say that drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors. Nuridinov was pronounced dead at the scene.

No citations have been reported regarding the incident. There is an ongoing investigation.
