Driver unhooked trailer and fled scene after bridge strike that seriously injured motorist

Motorists experienced serious backups in New York on Wednesday after a truck driver unhooked his trailer and left it stuck beneath a low overpass. 

The accident happened on December 14th in Lakeview, New York on the Southern State Parkway at around 3:48 a.m. 

According to News 12, the tractor trailer was on the Southern State Parkway at Exit 18, Eagle Avenue when it became wedged beneath the 18 overpass. A motorist traveling behind the truck was severely injured by debris from the crash. The truck driver then apparently unhooked the trailer from his truck and fled the scene. 

Semi trucks are not permitted on the Parkway.

The westbound side of the Southern State Parkway was closed between exits 18 and 19 for cleanup of the incident. No further information has been released.
