Elderly man walks into side of moving semi truck during volunteer trash pickup

A man was killed while picking up litter off the highway in Missouri on Monday afternoon. 

The accident happened on April 25th in West Plains, Missouri at 4:47 p.m. 

According to Ozark Radio News, 84-year-old Edward M. Horton was working as part of a volunteer trash pickup crew along Highway 63 near the Porter Wagoner merger when he attempted to cross the highway without looking. Horton then walked right into the side of an oncoming Kenworth semi truck driven by Jerald Schreiber of Columbus. Schreiber reportedly swerved in an attempt to avoid the man but was unable to prevent a collision. 

Horton sustained serious injuries in the accident and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Schreiber was unhurt in the incident and his truck was not damaged. No further information has been released.
