Electric semi maker issues recall for ‘all trucks produced to date’ due to seat belt issue

The Nikola Corporation issued a safety recall for nearly 100 electric trucks due to a seat belt defect.

The recall filed on September 14 is for 2022 Nikola Tre BEV Class 8 electric semi trucks.

According to National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents, the recall was issued because the company determined that the seat belt shoulder anchorage assembly may be improperly installed, which could “create a weakened condition.”

The company says that the recall affects all 93 Nikola Tre BEV vehicles that have been produced to date.

Nikola plans to begin the owner notification process on October 1, 2022.

The company says that they will replace the components of the seat belt shoulder anchorage assembly free of charge.

According to InsideEVs, the Nikola Tre BEV went into production on March 21, 2022, in  Coolidge, Arizona, following a pilot phase in late 2021.
